As I, Dr. Keyur Parikh, wake up to another day on the trail, the excitement of being on this incredible journey to Everest Base Camp fills me with renewed energy. Today, we set out from Monjo, our destination: Namche Bazaar.
Leaving behind the comfort of our lodging, we start our trek, surrounded by the serene beauty of pine forests and open land. The crisp mountain air invigorates me as I take in the sights and sounds of nature.
One of the highlights of today’s journey is crossing the iconic Hillary Bridge over the roaring Dudh Koshi river. With each step, I feel a sense of connection to the countless adventurers who have walked this path before me, including the legendary Sir Edmund Hillary himself.
The trail unfolds before us, revealing breathtaking vistas of towering mountains such as Mt. Nupla, Kongde Ri, and the majestic Mt. Everest. The sight of these towering peaks against the backdrop of the clear blue sky is awe-inspiring, reminding me of the sheer power and majesty of nature.
As we trek along the Bhote Koshi river, I can’t help but marvel at the resilience of the local people and animals who call this rugged terrain home. Donkeys and yaks laden with trekking gear and supplies pass us by, their sturdy presence a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Himalayan people.
Crossing the Monjo pass, we enter the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with unique flora and fauna. The tranquility of this protected wilderness fills me with a sense of peace and gratitude, reminding me of the importance of preserving our natural world.
Finally, after a day of trekking, we arrive in Namche Bazaar, a bustling mountain town nestled in the heart of the Himalayas. As I check my pulse oximeter and note my oxygen saturation and pulse rate, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. My present pulse Oxy is 94% 👍👍😂 and pulse is 95!
Despite the physical challenges of the journey, my spirits are high, and my determination unwavering.
As the sun sets over the mountains, casting a warm golden glow over the rugged landscape, I know that I am exactly where I am meant to be: on a journey of a lifetime, surrounded by the beauty and majesty of the Himalayas.
